Hi Friends. Can someone offer me guidance. My XS8 has been performing perfectly, but as of 1 hr. ago, non of my ‘electric’ guitars sound ‘distorted’ much in PATTERN mode. In VOICE mode they are fine. Most of them now sound like ‘clean’ single coil types and the REALLY heavy ones sound slightly edgy at best.

Any remedies? All else seems OK.

Thank you!

More info. It only does this on track 9-16. The VOLUME of those tracks when any distorted sound is selected is very low and without distortion. All other sound / types of sounds are at NORMAL volume when selected for those tracks.

I have copied these tracks to other PATTERNS, erased and copied PATTERNS, checked the VOLUME sliders themselves obviously.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can have INSERTION EFFECTS activated for up to 8 PARTS only. If you want to have Ins FX activated for Parts 9 and 10, you need to 1st deactivate them for some other Parts and then activate for Parts 9 & 10.

See Page 232 of the XS Owner’s Manual.

EDIT: This forum field thins I am putting in HTML code and keeps editing my posts, no wonder ti sounds strange.

These are not effects, these are the built in sounds. I only have 4 active tracks in my PATTERN. ANY of the E.Dst sound from the GUITAR CATAGORY does not have much volume or distortion.

I have 2 drums track and 2 bass tracks. Why cant I have a distorted guitar track on track 9? It is a 16v track sequencer capable of 16 different voices correct?

OK to FULLY Clarify:

I have DRUMS SOUNDS (voices from the DRUM category) on PATTERN MODE track 1 and 2. I have BASS SOUNDS (voices from the BASS category) on PATTERN MODE tracks 3 and 4. If I add any GUITAR SOUNDS (voices from the GUITAR E.Dst. category) the volume of those voices is low and without distortion (unlike how it usually is on my other PATTERNS) This only happens when I assign these SOUNDS/VOICES on tracks 9-16. I have NO effects, No Inserts.

Any ideas?

Could you post a screenshot of your Motif screen after pressing [MIXING] button in the Pattern mode?

OK in these screen shots. The CRUNCHY guitar voice in TRACK 9 has VERY low VOLUME and no ‘crunch’. It does not sound like it should or like it does in VOICE mode. Yet I have used this voice many times in previous patterns. NONE of the voices in E. DST categpry have any distortion in PATTERN mode on tracks 9-16. They all sound like clean guitars.

Thank you

You need to switch the INSERTION EFFECT on for Part 9 (Crunchy Guitar) in the MIXING screen. This particular preset voice has the Ins Effect Comp Distortion Delay activated for it in the Voice mode. You have to set the Ins FX Sw to on in the Mixing screen for it to sound like it sounds in the Voice mode.

VikasSharma is on the correct “track”. While you don’t have Insertion Effects turned on for tracks 1-8, you also don’t have it turned on for track 9 (or any other tracks).

In the PATTERN Mix Play screen, turn on (put a check mark in) Ins FX Sw for track 9. Using the cursor keys, highlight the box, then press [INC/YES]. [STORE] the change.

EDIT: Vikas posted while I typed. :-)

OK, thank you again VikasSharma! That worked.

Man, I was under the assumption that these were actual distorted samples, not ‘effected’ clean guitar samples. Limited to 8 insertions? This has been both a great help and a great disappointment. The XS8 is new to me, but it looks like I may need to sell it for a more expanded (in the way I work) keyboard.

I wonder why I have been able to have distorted guitars in tracks 9-16 before? Are the inserts selected on tracks 1-8 by default? Keep in mind I bought the keyboard in like new condition bu previously used.

Anyway, thank you for the help. I am grateful.

When I saw that you’ve posted, I thought I must have made some blunder which you would’ve obviously corrected. Thankfully, this was not the case :-)

Thank you also 5pinDIN. Was posting about the same time.

Yes I had taken ALL of the insert effect OFF during my initial trouble shooting. QUESTION: Would this INSERTION function apply to the Arpeggiator in Pattern Mode also? I ran into a couple of situations where the ARP does not ‘engage’ ON. Is this the same reason?

Thanks!

.

Easy answer - because, for some reason, the iunsertion effect switches were ON for tracks 9-16, or at least some of them were.

There is nothing wrong with your XS. This is the way it works. You can only have a maximum of 8 voices with insertion effects on in a Pattern or Song mix.

You’re welcome!

Yes.

You can restore your Motif to the original factory settings by performing the Factory Set operation described on Page 22 of the XS Owner’s Manual. Remember to take an ALL file backup before performing a Factory Set to avoid loosing you important data.
